Behind the Lyrics: The Making of “Aftermath”, Releasing October 27th

My new single Aftermath is set to release at 8pm CST on October 27th and will be my most vulnerable release yet. It is a dark, ambient, yet cinematic, electronic journey that sheds light on how personal rumination takes us out of the present reality. Aftermath tells an incredibly visceral story of how ruminating on past experiences can destroy our inner equanimity.

Aftermath was written in 2016 while I was dealing with immense feelings of guilt and shame. I kept allowing my mind to delve into the past and dwell on the events that brought these feelings. This song is a reminder to both my self and others, to not let the past rob you of the beauty, peace, and joy that is in the present moment. With this message in mind, my producer Nicci Gomez and I crafted a track that feels mysterious, haunting, and reminiscent of how these thoughts slowly make their way into our conscious mind until they take over the entirety of our mental environment. Elements in this track were also inspired by the Diablo 2 soundtrack, so if you’re a Diablo fan, you’re in for a treat!

I know you remember
On November’s eve, A trail that began with evergreens
The creek that only ran for me
Golden leaves that fell from the sky
Kissing my skin
Floating on by

Do you remember how the green began to fade?
Little foxes starting their brigade
Clouded fears
Hiding the light
No where to see
Trying to hide

Do you remember? Or have you forgotten Of the trail I tread
that now seems haunted. I know we made a promise
You promised me
That everything’s there at the bottom of the sea

Do you remember how the green began to fade?
Little foxes starting their brigade
Clouded fears
Hiding the light
No where to see
Trying to hide

Maybe I’m the one that keeps paving this path
Wandering back to the aftermath
Letting the night sink into my mind
Losing your hand
Nothing to guide

Do you remember?
