Behind the Lyrics of “Rearview Mirror”, Out December 5th.

Hello Everyone!

My newest single drops Friday December 5th. Rearview Mirror takes you on a heartbreaking synth-drenched journey into regret and the inability to let go of a love never fully realized. Is there anyone out there you can never forget no matter how hard you try?

When I wrote Rear-view Mirror, I was just improvising random melodies on my piano when I stumbled upon a little riff that you’ll hear all throughout this track. I played it over and over and each time I played it, it felt like it needed to be a nostalgic, but modern 80’s throwback song (similar to the Midnight). I began writing the rest of the melody based on the feeling of never truly getting over a lost love.

Not long after I finished writing this song, I had an opportunity to debut it at Club Dada. With a few days left until my show, I kept thinking “what would make this even more nostalgic?”. I tossed around the idea of adding in electric guitar, so I asked around to see who’d be willing to play when… I realized that keytars exist. So lo and behold, I scrapped the electric guitar instrument from the arrangement and decided to play the solo on a keytar. Now the Keytar has somewhat taken over my personality, but I’ll you be the judge of that.

It always feels like it’ll last

When it’s rushing over you

You get lost in their colors

Don’t know what’s red from what is

blue

Each smile like a million sunsets

Can’t get it out of my head

Memory burned like a flame

Got me reaching for the sun

I thought I left it behind,

I thought I left it in the past

buried crystal tears

Until I saw you

Until I saw you in my rearview mirror

My rearview mirror

took the beat out of every heart

Barely lived to keep it alive

Made me a wandering soul

When you’d always been my guide

So many lights in the sky

just had to make my wish on you

Little did I know it’d burn out

Like flame we both once knew
