Behind the Lyrics: The Making of “Victory Song”, Releasing February 23rd

I am thrilled to share what inspired my newest single releasing Friday, February 23rd! When I first wrote Victory Song I had just returned home from a gig in North Carolina. I was so full of hopes and dreams because I had been approached by a label that wanted to take me on as an artist. Long story short, it was not in my best interest to pursue that, but to this day, I remember how crushed I felt after fearing that I had lost my next big break. So I did what every songwriter does, I wrote.

I wanted to just be alone with my thoughts and process the events that took place, but I didn’t want to write about how I only felt despair. No, I wanted to tell myself that I would one day have my “Victory Song” and that I could get myself through what I was dealing with and write my own history. I reflected on courageous figures like Joan of Arc and melded the dreamy and fantastical, with determination and hope.

Victory Song sounds like a dream you have after an emotionally exhausting day. With this in mind, I wanted it to feel like a fantasy, but also soothing, and profound. I pulled inspiration for the sound from “The Vision of Escaflowne” — one of my favorite anime.

I hope Victory Song brings you the comfort and hope it brings me, no matter what you are facing.

A quiet place is all I need
A place of solitude
Where I can rest my feet

Lying tongues can sometimes
be so convincing
I need you telling me
that you’re listening

These jaded walls are crumbling around me
I am strong when you are so close to me

You paved the way for me
When I thought my world was ending
You showed up when I thought all was lost
You taught me my victory song

Oooooo

He thought he could
steal my dreams from me
He thought he could
crush every piece of me
But…

You paved the way for me
When I thought my world was ending
You showed up when I thought all was lost
You taught me my victory song

Oooooo
